DS to Function as a Game server:

Posted By: wraggster

Nintendo today held a touch-and-feel event for its forthcoming DS handheld in Tokyo. One of the interesting tidbits revealed by president Satoru Iwata is that not only will it be possible for multiple users to play together wirelessly, you’ll also only need one copy of the game—whichever machine has it installed will act as a server and beam it to the other players. Also, in addition to distributing extra content wirelessly at cinemas showing the next Pokemon movie, they’re planning to have game retailers beam out demos from their stores in the same way. They were also showing off several playable games (which should cost the equivalent of $35-$45 in Japan), leaving an impression of confidence that’s in contrast to the uncertainty surrounding Sony’s PSP.

Nintendo DS Officially Named Nintendo DS :)

Posted By: wraggster

Nintendo has announced today that its Nintendo DS system unveiled at E3 this year under the "Nintendo DS" working title is to be officially named... Nintendo DS. News on the christening comes as the company gears up to launch the handheld later in the year in the US and Japan, with Europe still having to wait till early 2005 for its arrival.[br]Announcing the official product name for the DS, Nintendo has also revealed that the system has undergone a slight redesign to "sport a slimmer, shaper look" (check the screenshots on this page), and it's a sexy little number to be sure. Going into the nitty gritty, it features a thinner, black base and an angular platinum flip-top cover, face buttons and shoulder buttons have been enlarged and "some have been reconfigured for optimum use," says Nintendo.[br][br]DS redesigned also includes a new storage slot for the touch screen's stylus and the speakers now broadcast in stereo sound, "with or without headphones".[br][br]Spouting numbers, Nintendo says that over 120 games are currently in development for the dual-screen system, 20-plus of which are Nintendo-developed first-party affairs. Over 100 companies have jumped onto the DS wagon to create titles for the handheld.[br][br]Launch date, pricing and launch game line-up announcements for Nintendo DS are expected at a later date.[br][br]Check out the great new screenshots at this Nintendo DS Screenshots Page

Nokia N-Gage QD US debut slips!

Posted By: wraggster

Nokia's N-Gage update, the N-Gage QD, will not ship in the US this month, as planned. Instead, the phone maker has rescheduled the launch to 27 July.[br][br]Separately, the company said it has cut the number of N-Gage titles it expects to see shipped by the end of the year by up to 60%.[br][br]The N-Gage QD is already available in Europe and Asia - it began shipping in the UK on 26 May - and is set to ship in Canada on 29 June.[br][br]The QD is more compact than its predecessor, and its more curvaceous casing makes the unit more easy to operate as a mobile phone. The unit's gamecard slot is now hot-swappable, and is located in the handheld's base, behind a rubber panel - so N-gage users no longer have to remove the battery first.[br][br]Nokia said today that the QD offers better battery life than the first N-Gage yet sports a brighter screen.[br][br]As per the previous edition, the QD supports Bluetooth-based multi-player gaming and can connect to Nokia's global N-Gage Arena community. A new N-Gage Arena launcher app makes accessing the N-Gage Arena easier than before, providing direct access to the N-Gage Arena community directly from the game deck.[br][br]In the US, the product is "ready for shipment", a Nokia spokesman said, but "we have made a business decision to maximise the impact of the launch by synchronising across all channel partners".[br][br]"For the Christmas market, there will be 40 games available," Nokia's head of strategy Matti Alahuhta said during Nokia Connection 2004 today. Punters can currently buy 20 games, he said.[br][br]Last December, however, Nokia said it expected to ship 50-100 titles by the end of 2004.!
